An “inauguration” of an event that occurred in the past, The California Karate Championships (CKC) came back on November 8, 2014 to the beautiful South San Francisco Convention Center after a long hiatus.  This championship event was the last of a series of numerous tournaments, which were held throughout the year by the following tournament promoters: Bobby Seronio Jr., Junior Salientes, Jordan Pallen, Moe Lama, Manuel Gonzalez, Geng Arceo, and Ervic Aquino.  Each tournament promoter hosts their tournament to allow competitors of all ranks, ages, schools, and styles to gain points to get a higher seed-placing in this championship event (just like in N.F.L. and N.B.A.).  The intent of these promoters was to allow competitive martial artists and future star athletes to gain more experience, build confidence, network with each other, and provide an opportunity to compete in other big tournament circuits/organizations such as the National Black Belt League/Sport Karate International.  These promoters brought an ‘old-skool’ feel to competitive martial arts in my opinion.

It was a good turnout ratio that provided a lot of action in numerous divisions, and it provided a higher difficulty between the competitors.  Beautiful awards were given to the top competitors in each division, and some of the competitors who won 1st-place were asked to come back to compete against other 1st-place winners at the main event night show on stage (depending on their overall scores).  Make sure to check out next year’s season on the tournament circuit’s website: www.ckchampionships.com .

What William And Arthur Created…

*October 2014 archive*

You’re probably asking who these 2 are.  Let me further explain…William S. Harley and Arthur Davidson.  William first created a blueprint drawing in 1901 for an engine that fits into a bicycle.  Then in 1903, William and Arthur created the first production of their famous brand of motorcycles.  Their masterpiece began in a wooden shed (hmmm…another success story that begins in a simple, basic setting).  Arthur’s brother Walter later joins in their production.

These are a few photos from the Passport Finale, Pancake Blowout, and 2015 Open House Model Event at Iron Steed H.D. in Vacaville, CA.  Some riders showcase their own at these events also.

The Aloha Challenge Martial Arts Tournament took place last Saturday, October 4th at Mt. Pleasant High School in San Jose.  The tournament was open to all styles and all skill levels for competitors 17 and under.  The divisions included kata, weapons, self-defense, point sparring, continuous sparring, and semi-contact kickboxing.  The competitors were competing for trophy titles, but the ultimate prizes were bikes for the Jr. Grand Champions in various divisions.  Alan Garcia and the Kajukenbo Institute Of Martial Arts hosted this successful event.

I personally enjoyed helping out at this event as a back-up judge/referee/timekeeper, and working with many other professional martial artists to support Mr. Garcia, along with his vision of providing a friendly, supportive, and competitive event for the next generation of martial artists and athletes.
